Quartz sinks are valued for their durability, modern design, and ability to handle everyday use. Like any kitchen fixture, they do require the right care. Most concerns people experience with quartz sinks are usually linked to day-to-day usage and maintenance habits rather than the material itself — something that’s especially relevant in busy Indian kitchens.

Cleaning and Maintaining Quartz kITCHEN sINK

1. Stains & Discoloration (The Most Common Issue)

The problem

Quartz sinks can develop stains over time, especially from:

  • Turmeric

  • Tea & coffee

  • Oil residue

  • Food dyes

  • Hard water minerals

This doesn’t mean quartz is porous — it means pigments were left sitting too long.

How to prevent it

  • Rinse the sink immediately after heavy cooking

  • Wipe dry after use (important in hard water areas)

  • Clean once a day with mild dish soap + soft sponge

What NOT to do

❌ Don’t use acid cleaners daily❌ Don’t let masala water sit overnight❌ Don’t assume “it will clean itself”

2. Hard Water White Marks & Scaling on Quartz Sink The problem

In many Indian cities, hard water leaves white mineral deposits that look like permanent damage.

This is scale, not sink failure.

How to maintain

  • Wipe the sink dry after washing utensils

  • Once a week, clean with:

    • Diluted vinegar (1:5 with water) OR

    • A quartz-safe descaler

  • Rinse thoroughly after cleaning

⚠️ Never let acid sit on the surface for long.

3. Scratches from Daily Use

The problem

Quartz sinks are scratch-resistant, not scratch-proof.Dragging:

  • Cast iron

  • Pressure cookers

  • Heavy kadais

will eventually leave marks.

Smart usage habits

  • Lift heavy vessels instead of dragging

  • Use a sink grid if possible

  • Avoid metal scouring pads

Minor surface scratches are usually cosmetic and don’t affect performance.

4. Heat Damage & Thermal Shock

The problem

Placing extremely hot utensils directly into a cold sink can cause thermal stress, especially near the drain area.

This is rare — but real.

Prevention

  • Don’t pour boiling oil directly into the sink

  • Let hot pans cool for a few seconds before placing them inside

  • Avoid sudden hot-to-cold temperature changes

Quartz is heat-resistant, not heat-immune.

5. Cracks Near the Drain (Installation-Related)

The problem

Cracks near the drain are almost always installation faults, not material defects.

Common causes:

  • Over-tightened drain fittings

  • Uneven countertop support

  • Poor-quality sealants

How to avoid this

  • Ensure the sink is fully supported underneath

  • Don’t over-tighten plumbing fittings

  • Installation must be done by a trained professional

A correctly installed quartz sink should last years without structural issues.
